Florida basketball stays at No, 19 in USA Today coaches poll

Florida basketball stayed at No. 19 in the USA Today coaches poll Monday after posting back-to-back wins over Grambling State (86-62) and at Florida State (87-74) last week.

The Florida Gators (4-0) next play Tuesday night at the O’Connell Center against Florida A&M (7 p.m., SEC Network Plus).

On Friday night, Florida overcame 19 turnovers to beat the rival Seminoles in its first road game of the season in Tallahassee. Point guard Walter Clayton Jr. led the way for UF with 25 points.

“We had some guys step up and make some big shots late, kind of saved us,” Florida basketball coach Todd Golden said. “Obviously, we have to do a much better job taking care of the ball, especially as we will see more teams that guard like this when we get into SEC play.”

Florida is one of seven SEC teams ranked in the coaches poll, a list that includes Auburn (3), Alabama (7), Tennessee (9), Kentucky (10), Texas A&M (23) and Arkansas (24).
