Auburn basketball’s Jahki Howard, Ja’Heim Hudson participants in UNA pregame

AUBURN — No. 3 Auburn basketball appears to have a pair of reserves back in the fold, as forwards Jahki Howard and Ja’Heim Hudson were active participants in the Tigers’ pregame warmups ahead of their Monday contest against North Alabama.

Neither has played since the Tigers’ Nov. 6 win over Vermont. The pair has been sidelined since, coinciding with their alleged involvement in a mid-flight altercation en route to Auburn’s game against No. 7 Houston. Both were bench-side for Auburn’s 23-point win over Kent State on Wednesday, but neither was a pregame participant.

Asked for comment about the pair’s availability Monday, a team spokesperson declined comment, referring to Coach Bruce Pearl’s answer on the topic in a Friday press conference.

“They’re at practice today,” Pearl said.

Howard and Hudson were reportedly at the center of an incident that grounded Auburn’s travels to Texas, in which the crew for that Friday flight returned the plane to Auburn after what was reported as “horseplay” escalated. Auburn took a flight to Houston later that night, according to an Auburn spokesperson. Neither Howard nor Hudson traveled with the team on that flight.

Neither the incident, nor the players’ absences, appeared to be a distraction, however, as the Tigers secured a top-five upset for just the third time in Pearl’s Auburn tenure, beating then-No. 4 Houston 74-69 on Saturday night.
