LAWRENCE — Earlier this month, Kansas women’s basketball announced the singings of a pair of prospects to its 2025 recruiting class.
There was Tatyonna Brown, a 6-foot-2 forward out of Colorado Spring, Colorado, who head coach Brandon Schneider said in a KU release will bring “a level of length and athleticism that will elevate our frontline play on both ends of the floor.” There was Libby Fandel, a 6-foot-1 guard out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who Schneider described as one of the premier wings in the nation and is a 247Sports Composite five-star prospect. There and then, the Jayhawks had the makings of a quality class.
But Kansas didn’t rest on its laurels, and Tuesday received a commitment from another five-star prospect in Jaliya Davis. Davis, the No. 6 small forward in the class, is also the No. 1 talent in the state of Kansas. She’s the No. 19 prospect in the nation, while Fandel is at No. 42.

“I want to thank everyone who’s here today, everybody who’s here to support me,” Davis said during her announcement, according to a Phog.net video from he commitment event. “I was blessed to get a lot of offers from top programs, but I think I decided to stay home and go to Kansas.”
Under Schneider, who’s been the Jayhawks’ head coach starting with the 2015-16 season, Kansas has reached two NCAA tournaments in the past three seasons. In those two NCAA tournament appearances, it’s reached the round of 32 each year. In the season in which it didn’t reach the NCAA tournament, the Jayhawks went on to win the 2023 Postseason WNIT.
Kansas’ 2024-25 season, which is already underway, will see Schneider and company attempt to reach a third NCAA tournament in his tenure. It has more depth than it did last season, and a sophomore guard in S’Mya Nichols leading the way. Nichols’ presence in future seasons should almost certainly play a factor in players of the caliber…
