UCF basketball heads to Greenbrier Tip-Off with Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, LSU

UCF’s football team is not the only one heading to West Virginia for the weekend. The Knights men’s basketball squad will take part in a four-team, two-day showcase at the famed Greenbrier resort.

The Knights improved to 4-0 Tuesday night, pulling away late for an 80-69 home win over Tennessee Tech. Darius Johnson became the 21st player in program history to score 1,000 career points, and Keyshawn Hall surpassed the 20-point mark for the second straight game.

UCF (4-0) completed an undefeated opening homestand, highlighted by an upset of then-No. 15 Texas A&M on Nov. 4 to kick off its second campaign as a member of the Big 12.

“The thing I keep learning from our guys is, basically, having poise down the stretch of close ballgames,” Knights coach Johnny Dawkins said. “I think we’ve shown ability down the stretch to make the right play, to get the stops that we need to be successful. We have to continue to grow in that area.”

The Knights are still without top returning scorer Jaylin Sellers (undisclosed) and touted redshirt freshman Mikey Williams, though the latter is no longer wearing a protective boot around his left ankle.

UCF could improve its case to crack the national polls with a successful showing at The Greenbrier, beginning with a 5 p.m. Friday tipoff against Wisconsin. The combined record of the Tip-Off’s four participants — UCF, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh and LSU — stands at a perfect 18-0.

Here is a quick glance at the Knights’ potential opponents and information on how to watch The Greenbrier Tip-Off.
