During the All-Star break of the 2024-25 NBA Regular Season, Anthony Edwards shared his thoughts on the significant trade involving Luka Doncic.
After the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers reached an agreement, Edwards expressed his surprise about the Mavericks’ decision to let go of their franchise’s star player.
The young Minnesota Timberwolves guard, who is just 23 years old, discussed speculation regarding Doncic’s alleged weight issues and how they may have influenced his departure from Dallas.
“When I was 240 pounds,” Edwards responded when asked about his offseason weight, “I hope they didn’t consider trading me then.”
He went on to comment on the rumored weight of Doncic, saying, “He didn’t seem 270 to me. He’s still averaging 30 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds. Honestly, I wouldn’t care if he weighed 300 pounds; I’d still want him on my team.”
Doncic, age 25, has been impressive this season, highlighted by averages of 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 7.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game over 22 appearances for the Mavericks. He began his time with the Lakers averaging 15.0 points across his first two games.
As the league resumes post-All-Star break, Doncic will be free to play without any restrictions. The Lakers, under coach JJ Redick, will face the Timberwolves at the crypto.com Arena next Thursday, following a home game against the Mavericks on the preceding Tuesday.
In the meantime, Edwards missed the 74th annual All-Star Game due to a groin injury but is anticipated to be available for the matchup against the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center this Friday, kicking off the latter part of the regular season.
