Embracing New Beginnings: Dennis Schroder Thrives with Detroit Pistons as a Veteran Leader

Veteran point guard Dennis Schroder shared insights about embarking on his journey with the Detroit Pistons.

After overcoming recent challenges in his career, the 31-year-old German reflected on his new role with the Pistons, marking his ninth NBA team and third during the 2024-25 Regular Season. He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from the organization and highlighted his commitment to achieving success as he prepares for his second game as a member of the Pistons.

“They extended a lot of love and reached out to me immediately. The support I’ve received since arriving here has been fantastic. My teammates are doing an excellent job of helping me acclimate to their system from the start. The coaches and front office have also facilitated a quick adjustment,” he noted while discussing his transition in Motor City, according to the Detroit Free Press. “In just a few days, once my family arrives and we settle into our housing, everything should fall into place.”

Playing as a reserve for head coach J. B. Bickerstaff’s squad, he has averaged 4.5 points and 3.5 assists per game over two victories with his new team.

“It’s been wonderful,” he remarked. “This is my 12th season, so I see myself as a veteran now at 31. I believe I can contribute significantly to this team by guiding the younger players to make the right decisions and focus on what truly matters for the team’s improvement. That’s the essence of why I’ve been playing for 12 years, and I aim to lead by example every day while demonstrating the right way to play on the court.”

Currently, with a record of 28-26, the Pistons sit in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings, the lowest seed that qualifies directly for the playoffs. Before heading into the All-Star break, they will conclude their schedule by facing the Chicago Bulls in a back-to-back matchup at the United Center on Wednesday.
