Franz Wagners 37-Point Effort Falls Short as Magic Succumb to Hawks in Intense Showdown

In a thrilling contest at Kia Center featuring 14 lead changes, the Atlanta Hawks managed to secure a victory against the Orlando Magic, finishing 112-106 on Monday evening.

With Swiss player Clint Capela still out, Czech athlete Vit Krejci exited early due to a lower back contusion after contributing eight points, four assists, one steal, and one rebound in just 18 minutes. French player Zaccharie Risacher also played just under 18 minutes, scoring 11 points along with four assists, two rebounds, and one steal.

Despite German Franz Wagner leading the way for the Magic with a game-high 37 points, shooting 15 of 29 from the field, it wasn’t enough for a win. Falling just one point shy of his personal best, he also grabbed seven rebounds, dished out three assists, and made two steals over the course of 37 minutes. “We had too many moments in the game where we lacked the necessary urgency as a team,” he stated in the postgame media session. “We need to improve.”

The Magic had other German support, but Moritz (recovering from left knee surgery) was unavailable. Tristan da Silva contributed with nine points, two rebounds, one steal, and a block. Georgian Goga Bitadze started but remained scoreless, though he tallied four blocks, three rebounds, and one steal.

After missing the last game of the 2024-25 NBA Regular Season due to illness, Latvian Kristaps Porzingis returned to form with 17 points, nine rebounds, two blocks, and two assists, leading the Boston Celtics to a decisive 103-85 victory over the Miami Heat at Kaseya Center. Portuguese teammate Neemias Queta added four points and a rebound. Serbian Nikola Jovic, who is dealing with a right ankle sprain, came off the bench for the revamped Heat and recorded ten points along with eight rebounds, while Swedish player Pelle Larsson finished with three points and one rebound.

At Paycom Center, the Oklahoma City Thunder set a franchise record by sinking 27 three-pointers to triumph over the New Orleans Pelicans, 137-101. With French Ousmane Dieng (right soleus strain), Belgian Ajay Mitchell (right great toe surgery), and Serbian Nikola Topic (left knee surgery) sidelined, German Isaiah Hartenstein contributed six points, 13 rebounds, and two assists. On the Pelicans’ side, Croatian Karlo Matkovic had eight points, nine rebounds, three blocks, and two assists.
