In preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics, the French basketball federation turned its attention to Kenny Atkinson, who was more than willing to answer the call to join their coaching team.
Atkinson, who is currently leading the Cleveland Cavaliers, has some international experience; he briefly coached the Dominican Republic in 2015 and began his career as an assistant coach with Paris Basket Racing from 2004 to 2006.
As a participant in the coaching staff for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game, he shared his thoughts on the possibility of the NBA expanding into Europe, expressing his support, as reported by the Seattle Times.
“It’s a complex issue for me. The financial aspects are something I’m not fully aware of. It’s a decision for others to make. Personally, I have a deep appreciation for the beauty of FIBA and international basketball,” he remarked.
“I would absolutely love the chance to see an NBA team play in Madrid or Paris one day. The enthusiasm of the fans is incredible, and I believe it could elevate the NBA experience significantly,” he added.
