As Luka Doncic prepares for his first game with the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James showcased a stellar performance, scoring 42 points to help secure a 120-112 victory against the Golden State Warriors, led by Stephen Curry, at the crypto.com Arena on Thursday.
At 40 years old, LeBron became the oldest player in NBA history to register at least 40 points in a single game. He now ranks second for the most games with 40 or more points, trailing only Michael Jordan.
In response to his performance, he humorously stated, “What do I think? I feel old. I could use a glass of wine and some rest. That’s the first thing on my mind.”
Reflecting on reaching this milestone connected to Jordan, he said, “The most important thing is that we won, of course. For me, any time I’m mentioned alongside the greats, it’s incredibly humbling. It reminds me of my journey and how deeply I love this game. It’s quite special.”
In a nostalgic nod to their previous matchups, Curry, 36, delivered a solid game himself, scoring 37 points on 13 of 35 shooting, including six three-pointers. In addition to LeBron’s 42 points, which came from an impressive 14 of 25 shooting, he also contributed 17 rebounds and eight assists.
The Lakers were without Luka Doncic (left calf strain) and Maxi Kleber (right foot surgery) under head coach JJ Redick, while French player Armel Traore remained on the bench. Quinten Post of the Warriors, hailing from the Netherlands, finished with six points, two assists, and two rebounds in 11 minutes of play.
