Lonnie Walker IV is set to depart from the EuroLeague as he makes his return to the NBA.
According to reports from both Shams Charania and Marc Stein, citing Walker’s representative, the 26-year-old guard has agreed to a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, activating a clause in his agreement with Zalgiris Kaunas.
Earlier today (February 18), Stein noted via Twitter that Walker’s agent confirmed the American swingman had chosen to remain in Lithuania before ultimately rejoining the NBA for the upcoming season. Just hours before his NBA out clause was set to expire on February 18, Walker finalized a two-year deal worth $3 million with the Sixers.
After joining Zalgiris in late October, Walker played with the team for three and a half months. He averaged 13.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 22:17 minutes over 19 EuroLeague appearances, while also contributing 12.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 17:23 minutes across 10 games in the Lithuanian League.
For Walker, this marks his fourth stint in the NBA following previous tenures with the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers, and Brooklyn Nets.
The Sixers add another EuroLeague player to their roster with Walker, following forward Guerschon Yabusele. Meanwhile, Zalgiris loses a key performer at a critical time as they strive to secure a postseason berth in the EuroLeague. Currently, the Lithuanian team holds a 12-14 record, tied for 12th place with Anadolu Efes in the standings.
