After a close defeat against the Sacramento Kings at Target Center on Monday, Minnesota Timberwolves players Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert weighed in on the news of the Dallas Mavericks trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
“It’s surprising they claim everyone was unaware of the trade. That’s just wild,” said Edwards, the 23-year-old shooting guard, affirming various reports about the move.
Gobert, the 32-year-old center from France, shared his initial disbelief. “I found it hard to accept at first. With all the fake accounts sharing ridiculous information daily, I was double-checking to make sure the news was legitimate.”
“This is insane,” Gobert added. “There might be more going on behind the scenes than we realize. It reflects a lot about the current situation in the league when a young superstar isn’t considered untouchable.”
“They traded away arguably the best scorer in the league at just 25 years old, and he wasn’t even aware of it. There needs to be a deeper investigation into why that happened. You don’t just trade someone like him at that age, especially after he just reached the Finals,” Edwards noted.
Currently, the Wolves hold a 27-13 record, sitting 1.5 games away from securing a spot in the 2025 Playoffs and within 1.5 games of the Play-In tournament in the Western Conference.
“I feel for Luka,” said the dynamic forward. “I saw on YouTube that he just bought a new place in Dallas. That’s a tough situation.”
Jokingly, Edwards added, “I’m a bit worried,” turning to team president Tim Connelly, “Tim, if you’re planning on trading me, you better give me a heads-up, my dude.”
