Charlotte Hornets guard Vasilije Micic praised his Serbian teammate Nikola Jokic in anticipation of the upcoming match between his team and the Denver Nuggets, where Jokic plays.
Micic, who first crossed paths with Jokic during their teenage years while playing for the same Serbian team, described the three-time MVP as an exemplary figure for other prominent NBA players.
“We’ve been friends since we were 18 or 19. We were teammates at Mega,” Micic remarked following the Hornets’ 104-112 defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers. “He came from a small club. We spent two years together, and while I wasn’t sure he would reach this level, it was clear from the beginning that he had remarkable talent. We’re quite close. He’s a unique individual—very humble and reserved. He prefers a simpler life. He serves as an excellent role model for every superstar in the NBA. I’m excited to see him tomorrow.”
Micic and Jokic teamed up last summer as they helped Serbia secure a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games. They had previously collaborated on the “Orlovi” squad in both the 2022 EuroBasket and the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
In the current 2024-25 season, Micic, who has previously been recognized as both the EuroLeague season and Final Four MVP, is averaging 7.5 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.4 rebounds over 21.2 minutes per game through 34 games. He also matched his season-high with 20 points against the Clippers.
