Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant took to X to respond to the backlash regarding the quality of the NBA All-Star Game.
“I believe it’s more entertaining for people to criticize the NBA than to actually watch the games. It’s wild—maybe we should just scrap All-Star Weekend and give everyone a break since we seem to be so unhappy at this time of year,” Durant tweeted shortly after the conclusion of the 2025 All-Star Game.
“What I’m saying is, fans nitpick about EVERYTHING. It seems nothing satisfies them right now—only the playoffs, trade deadlines, free agency, and when players have disputes, lol,” Durant added.
Numerous elements of the 2025 All-Star Game were poorly received by fans, who expressed their discontent across social media platforms.
The shift from the conventional East vs. West matchup to a four-team tournament format received a slew of negative feedback, including from players. “I wasn’t a fan of the breaks,” said Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young. “The games felt too short. We clearly have the ability to score, so it feels like they’re trying to stretch the game and the television time with unnecessary breaks.”
Boston Celtics swingman Jaylen Brown commented, “It’s probably not the best idea to have those interruptions if you want players to be physical. That being said, guys were still out there enjoying themselves. The veterans—team old knees and old backs—came out on top, so I think there shouldn’t be any excuses from others. It’s definitely not perfect.”
TNT analyst Kenny Smith remarked, “I think they’re likely to revert to the old format,” even before the game concluded.
Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo suggested that changing to a “USA players vs. International players” format could enhance the excitement of the game.
“I would love that,” Antetokounmpo said. The Greek Freak missed the 2025 All-Star Game due to a calf injury. “I think that would make for the most fascinating and exhilarating format.”
