Kevin Durant has reached a significant achievement that places him in a distinguished group alongside legends such as LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki, and Wilt Chamberlain.
On Tuesday, the 36-year-old forward became the eighth player in NBA history to surpass the 30,000-point mark in regular-season play.
“It’s an incredible honor to be considered among those players who have significantly influenced the game and helped it evolve,” he expressed during a postgame conference after the Phoenix Suns’ setback against the Memphis Grizzlies at the Footprint Center. “My constant aim has been to maximize my potential every day and make the most of my career. If I’m being compared to those greats, it means I must be doing something right.”
Durant notched 34 points in the game, with a free throw late in the third quarter bringing him to the milestone of 30,000 points. Grizzlies’ star Ja Morant presented him with the game ball to commemorate this remarkable achievement.
“For Ja to show me that respect really resonates with me,” Durant said. “He’s a young player I’ve admired since his college days. I can see a few others in this league reaching that milestone in the future too.”
“It’s a unique moment for everyone who gets to work with him daily,” commented Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer. “We’re in awe of his dedication, the effort he puts in, and his meticulous attention to detail. All of that has resulted in 30,000 points. He is truly an exceptional player and an extraordinary individual.”
