Klay Thompson made headlines during the summer of 2024 when he signed with the Dallas Mavericks after leaving the Golden State Warriors.
He had hoped to form a dynamic trio alongside Kyrie Irving and, most notably, the cornerstone of the franchise, Luka Doncic. However, in a surprising turn of events, Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis.
After suffering a 144-101 defeat to Cleveland, Thompson expressed his thoughts on Doncic’s trade. “I wish Luka all the best. Playing alongside him for those 22 games was a pleasure. We’re definitely looking forward to welcoming AD with open arms—he’s one of the all-time greats, recognized in the Top 75,” he stated.
Discussing the move that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers, Klay said, “I wish Luka all the best. It was a pleasure to play with him in those 22 games we spent together, but we’re excited to welcome AD… It’s part of the business; professionalism is key… pic.twitter.com/PjqGwnot2O

“It’s the reality of the business. You need to remain professional amidst any challenges, and I’m eager to maintain our goal,” he continued.
Thompson later drew comparisons between Doncic’s trade to the Lakers and LeBron James’ switch to the Miami Heat during the offseason.
“It’s reminiscent of LeBron’s move to Miami. While that was his decision, Luka’s performance has mirrored LeBron’s, so… He is a franchise player, and I have no doubt he’ll thrive in California’s sunshine,” remarked the former Warriors sharpshooter.
