According to Shams Charania’s report, Bobby Portis of the Milwaukee Bucks has received a 25-game suspension for breaching the league’s anti-drug regulations.
Portis’s representative, Mark Bartelstein from Priority Sports, issued a statement to ESPN regarding the situation:
“I feel heartbroken for Bobby at this moment, as he made an unintentional error, and the consequences are extremely severe.
Bobby mistakenly took a pain reliever named Tramadol, believing it was Toradol, a medication he has used in the past and which is commonly administered by teams and athletes for pain and inflammation relief.
In contrast, Tramadol is not an authorized pain reliever and was only added to the banned substances list this past spring. The Tramadol pill was given to him by one of his assistants, who had a legitimate prescription and erroneously informed Bobby that it was Toradol. This mix-up was truly an honest oversight, compounded by the similarity in their names and their comparable uses,” Bartelstein clarified.
Portis has played a crucial role in the Milwaukee Bucks’ achievements this season, averaging 13.7 points and 8.3 rebounds. After serving the suspension, he will be eligible to participate only in the last four matches of the NBA regular season.
