Jimmy Butler’s first game with the Golden State Warriors was nothing short of spectacular.
In his inaugural match with the new squad, Butler tallied 25 points, shooting 7 for 12 from the field and sinking 11 of 13 from the free throw line, contributing significantly to the Warriors’ impressive 132-111 victory over the Chicago Bulls.
It had been since January 21 that Butler had last seen action, following a third suspension from the Miami Heat for what was deemed a “continued pattern of disregard for team rules.” The 35-year-old six-time All-Star forward expressed that returning to play for the Heat was no longer appealing to him, and he was eager for a fresh start with a different organization.
“I knew a move was on the horizon, whether it meant being sent to Flamengo in Brazil,” he said, referring to his wish to join the Brazilian team after his NBA days are over. “But I’m thrilled it’s here with the Warriors. I feel fortunate to play for such an esteemed organization.”
Butler needed an opportunity away from Miami, while the Warriors were in search of a seasoned player like him to complement Steph Curry on the court.
“They say that opposites attract in many aspects of life,” Butler remarked about teaming up with Curry. “I honestly believe I’m an ideal fit for him, and vice versa. They’re not letting anyone else take his space. There’s so much room for everyone else. My role is relatively simple—I get to play one-on-one or operate in expansive space.”
