Struggling with Injuries, Joel Embiid Reflects on Frustrating Performance: Im Not Myself

The Philadelphia 76ers and Joel Embiid experienced a disappointing performance on Thursday.

Following a setback that brought their record to 20-35 in the 2024-25 NBA Regular Season against the Boston Celtics, the 30-year-old center reflected on his decreasing contributions.

“The way I played last year is not how I’m playing now,” he admitted after the defeat at Wells Fargo Center, where he managed to score 15 points with a shooting performance of 3-for-9, in addition to recording four assists and three rebounds in 27 minutes.

“It’s frustrating,” he acknowledged, addressing speculations about the possibility of undergoing another surgery in the offseason, “I probably need to address the issue, and then I can return to that level. But it’s challenging to have confidence when you’re not performing at your best.”

Ongoing knee problems, which have plagued his career, have now intensified with a foot sprain.

“I’m okay,” he stated, “I’m managing it. I just have to keep pushing and hope for the best.”

As the Regular Season progresses, the team, under Nick Nurse’s coaching, is grappling with the challenge of securing a spot in the Play-Ins.

“I’m not as dominant as I was a few months ago, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still significantly impact the game,” Embiid explained. “Just having me out there makes a difference. My presence and ability to draw double teams benefit my teammates’ opportunities. It’s tough because I know I can contribute more. But there are no excuses; that’s the reality. We just have to find ways to adapt and improve.”

Due to recent challenges, Embiid has only participated in 17 games this season. Over his career, he has played in 450 of a total of 875 regular-season games.
