This isn’t an April Fools’ prank, as today is February 2nd, yet it’s still quite astonishing. The Dallas Mavericks have decided to trade Luka Dončić.
The Slovenian sensation will be moving to the Los Angeles Lakers in a massive deal that took everyone by surprise, with Anthony Davis heading to Dallas in return. Even Kevin Durant expressed his disbelief about the trade:
“Unbelievable. It’s just wild, really. I never imagined Luka Dončić would be traded at this stage of his career and during the season. The NBA is truly unpredictable,” Durant commented, as reported by Duane Rankin.
The Phoenix Suns superstar and two-time NBA champion believes this trade could trigger further shocking moves as the deadline approaches on February 6th.
“When you witness a transaction like this, it can give other organizations the boldness to take risks. Seeing another team part with a star like that might inspire others to think, ‘Why not?’ This has to be the biggest deal I’ve witnessed since entering the league or even while following the sport. It’s wild. So, yes, other franchises might gain the courage to say, ‘Why not trade a few of our key players if things aren’t working out?'” Durant added.
