Victor Wembanyama Shines with a Double-Double but Takes a Stunning Poster from Former Teammate Bilal Coulibaly

Victor Wembanyama recorded a double-double, leading the San Antonio Spurs to a 131-121 victory over the Washington Wizards at Capital One Arena on Monday night.

The French sensation showcased his skills by shooting 12 out of 21 from the field, which included five successful three-pointers, culminating in a total of 31 points. He also contributed 15 rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and two steals.

“We exhibited a strong mindset. We maintained our composure on both ends of the floor,” Wembanyama stated in the postgame press conference. “That’s crucial. It’s always the essential first step towards a win.”

Off the bench for the Spurs, Polish player Jeremy Sochan added 14 points along with five rebounds, three steals, and three assists, while Georgian teammate Sandro Mamukelashvili contributed three points, one rebound, and one assist.

Bilal Coulibaly, who played alongside Wembanyama last season with Metropolitans 92 in France, scored ten points, which included a highlight dunk over Wembanyama in the fourth quarter. The 20-year-old French forward also tallied four assists, three rebounds, and one steal. His current French teammate, Alex Sarr, remains out due to a left ankle sprain.

Serbian Tristan Vukcevic scored 18 points, grabbed six rebounds, and added two assists, one steal, and one block. “I’ve been out of the rotation, so the real preparation was done with the coaches, and the ‘stay-ready’ games were essential for being ready for the opportunities in these past few games,” he remarked. “The key is staying prepared.”

In Brooklyn, the Nets secured a 97-89 win over the Charlotte Hornets. British player Tosan Evbuomwan contributed seven points, six rebounds, three steals, and one assist for the team, coached by Spaniard Jordi Fernandez. Croatian Bojan Bogdanovic was listed on the injury report with a left foot issue and did not participate.

Under the guidance of Charles Lee, French player Moussa Diabate returned from a right eye injury but had to leave the game due to an abrasion after achieving a personal best of 21 points with a shooting accuracy of 9/11 on two-pointers. The 23-year-old forward also collected ten rebounds and recorded two blocks.

As Bosnian newcomer Jusuf Nurkic continues to wait for his debut, fellow French player Tidjane Salaun scored 16 points and added five rebounds, two steals, and one block in a losing effort. “This experience is helping me grow and better understand NBA culture,” the promising rookie stated regarding his increased playing time.

In the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, Rudy Gobert put up 12 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, and one assist, but the Minnesota Timberwolves fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers by a score of 128-107. Bosnian teammate Luka Garza did not score in his three minutes on the court.
