Victor Wembanyama Sparks Debate by Declaring LeBron James Underrated Ahead of NBA All-Star Game

As the 2025 NBA All-Star Game approaches, Victor Wembanyama has described LeBron James as being underestimated.

When asked to name the most underrated player in the league, the 21-year-old French center drew attention on social media on Friday afternoon by pointing to the four-time NBA champion.

“I’m going to go with LeBron,” Wembanyama responded in a video shared by NBA on TNT.

He later expressed some uncertainty about the question but ultimately reaffirmed his choice of LeBron.

“Underrated simply means not being valued at your true worth, right? I believe LeBron is underrated,” he stated.

On Sunday, the standout player for the San Antonio Spurs will make his All-Star Game debut, having previously participated only in the Rising Stars competition during his initial year in the North American league after being selected first overall in the 2023 draft. He’ll be representing Chuck’s Global Stars, facing off against Kenny’s Young Stars in the Semifinals.

Meanwhile, LeBron, playing for the Los Angeles Lakers as part of Shaq’s OGs, is set to compete against Candace’s Rising Stars on the other side of the bracket. A potential matchup between Wembanyama and LeBron could occur if both teams advance to the Final of the three-game mini-tournament at Chase Center.

Kicking off All-Star Weekend on Saturday, Wembanyama will team up with Spurs teammate Chris Paul in the Kia Skills Challenge. After being part of Team Top Pick alongside Paolo Banchero and Anthony Edwards last year, he is now joining Team Spurs.
