Victor Wembanyama, a player for the San Antonio Spurs, will join forces with teammate Chris Paul in the annual Skills Challenge during the upcoming NBA All-Star Weekend. This announcement was made by NBA insider Chris Haynes on Sunday afternoon.
In his debut season in the league, Wemby participated in the Kia Skills Challenge alongside Paolo Banchero from the Orlando Magic and Anthony Edwards from the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of Team Top Pick, although they did not secure a victory. This time, he will team up with Paul, who has extensive experience with five previous Skills Challenge appearances. More information about the event, scheduled for February 15 in San Francisco, will be released by the NBA shortly.
After competing in last year’s Rising Stars Challenge at the All-Star Weekend, the talented French player has now been selected as a reserve for the 2025 All-Star Game. He is one of the 24 players who will be allocated into three teams for Thursday night’s event. The selection will create Team Chuck, Team Shaq, and Team Kenny for a new four-team tournament, which will also include the champion of the Castrol Rising Stars, designated as Team Candace, replacing the traditional All-Star Game format.
Rather than having two teams of 12 players face off directly, the competition will take the form of three separate games. The semifinals will feature two matchups that will determine the finalists, with a total of 40 points needed for victory in each game.
