Giannis Embraces Caution: Playing Smart as He Adjusts to Minute Restrictions Post-Injury

After a three-week absence, Giannis Antetokounmpo took to the court for a total of 43 minutes across two games in the 2024-25 Regular Season with the Milwaukee Bucks. However, his playing time was cut short to just 19 minutes on Friday after he fouled out during the match against the Washington Wizards in Capital One Arena.

This injury prevented the ‘Greek Freak’ from participating in the 2025 All-Star Game and led to him missing six games for the Bucks.

“I hadn’t played for like 18 days,” he reflected on his current recovery plan following the game against the Wizards. “I’m focusing on regaining my rhythm. It’s a slow process, but I’m working on it. I need to rebuild my endurance and find my groove again.”

Since returning, the Greek basketball star has been under the watchful eye of the medical staff, adhering to protocols during gameplay. In his comeback, he has played a pivotal role in securing two victories, averaging 20.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

“I believe it’s normal for anyone returning from an injury for three weeks to have a minutes restriction. It’s a bit unusual for me since I’ve only experienced this once or twice in my career,” the seasoned forward remarked. “I have to do what’s necessary. I dealt with an unexpected injury last year, so I need to be smart and take care of my body.”

Currently, the team, led by coach Doc Rivers, holds a record of 31-24, positioning them fifth in the Eastern Conference standings, with a 4.5-game cushion in the playoff zone guaranteed for the 2025 postseason.
