In the 2013 NBA Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks chose Giannis Antetokounmpo as the 15th overall pick. Since then, the Greek superstar has risen to prominence as one of the elite players globally, clinching an NBA championship in 2021 along with two MVP titles in 2019 and 2020.
Now in his 12th season with the Bucks, rumors suggest that the Brooklyn Nets might be looking to change that. According to a report by the New York Post, Giannis has become the primary target for the Nets.
“As reported by The Post, several league insiders have indicated that Giannis Antetokounmpo is still the top priority for the Nets. Should he be traded this summer, it could simplify General Manager Sean Marks’ strategy—potentially opting for another year of rebuilding through the lottery,” writes Brian Lewis in the New York Post.
While the Nets are also considering other players, including the Sacramento Kings’ Lithuanian center Domantas Sabonis, Antetokounmpo remains their primary focus.
“What will the Nets do if the two-time MVP stays in Milwaukee after the June draft, which is typically when Marks makes his most significant moves? Would it be wise to pursue lesser targets like Ja Morant, Domantas Sabonis, Trae Young, or LaMelo Ball at the cost of giving up on their hopes for the Greek star?”
This season, Antetokounmpo is putting up impressive numbers, averaging 30.2 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 5.9 assists, while maintaining an exceptional shooting percentage of 60.1% from the floor.
