The NBA has revealed the disciplinary actions taken against the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves following an on-court incident during their recent matchup.
According to the NBA:
Isaiah Stewart, a forward-center for the Pistons, has been handed a two-game suspension without pay for his role in escalating the altercation, as confirmed by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations. The decision regarding the duration of Stewart’s suspension is influenced by his prior history of unsportsmanlike conduct.
Additionally, Pistons forward Ron Holland II, guard Marcus Sasser, Timberwolves center-forward Naz Reid, and guard Donte DiVincenzo will each sit out for one game without pay due to their involvement in the fracas.
The conflict initiated when Holland II fouled Reid defensively with 8:36 left in the second quarter of the Timberwolves’ 123-104 win over the Pistons on March 30 at Target Center. Reid subsequently confronted Holland II, leading to an exchange where Holland II pushed DiVincenzo, who retaliated by shoving Holland II back. This confrontation escalated, with the two players and Reid becoming tangled and falling into the stands. Stewart and Sasser then joined the scuffle near the stands, pushing both DiVincenzo and Reid, further intensifying the situation.
Consequently, all five players involved received technical fouls and were ejected from the game.
Reid and DiVincenzo are set to serve their one-game suspensions this evening when the Timberwolves take on the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena. Stewart will begin his two-game suspension on Wednesday when the Pistons face the Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center. Holland II and Sasser will also serve their one-game suspensions on Wednesday night.
