Tensions Flare as NBA Hands Down Suspensions After Pistons-Timberwolves Brawl

NEW YORK – Isaiah Stewart, forward-center for the Detroit Pistons, has been suspended for two games without pay following an intensification of an on-court confrontation, as announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations. The duration of Stewart’s suspension is influenced by his prior record of unsportsmanlike conduct.

In addition, Pistons forward Ron Holland II, guard Marcus Sasser, Minnesota Timberwolves center-forward Naz Reid, and guard Donte DiVincenzo have each received a one-game suspension without pay due to their involvement in the on-court incident.

The altercation started when Holland II fouled Reid defensively with 8:36 left in the second quarter during the Timberwolves’ 123-104 win against the Pistons on March 30 at Target Center. Following the foul, Reid confronted Holland II, who then pushed DiVincenzo. In retaliation, DiVincenzo shoved Holland II, causing the two players and Reid to become entangled and tumble into the stands. Stewart and Sasser later joined the fray near the stands, pushing both DiVincenzo and Reid, leading to further escalation.

As a result of their actions, all five players received technical fouls and were ejected from the game.

Reid and DiVincenzo will serve their one-game suspensions tonight when the Timberwolves face off against the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena. Stewart’s two-game suspension will commence Wednesday when the Pistons go up against the Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center. Holland II and Sasser will also begin their one-game suspensions on Wednesday evening.
