CLEVELAND (AP)— Jalen Brunson, the standout guard for New York, has been given the green light to participate in basketball activities and may rejoin the Knicks for the final week of the regular season, according to coach Tom Thibodeau’s comments before Wednesday night’s matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The coach mentioned that Brunson is anticipated to begin practicing again during the Knicks’ upcoming road trip, which takes them to Atlanta on Saturday, followed by home games against Phoenix on Sunday and Boston on Tuesday.
Brunson suffered a sprained right ankle during overtime in the March 6 game against the Lakers in Los Angeles when he inadvertently stepped on the foot of Lakers guard Austin Reaves after being fouled while driving to the hoop.
Even with Brunson sidelined, the Knicks have managed an impressive 8-5 record without him and currently sit in third place in the Eastern Conference.
Brunson ranks seventh in the league for scoring with an average of 26.3 points per game and is eighth in assists, contributing 7.4 assists per game.
