LeBron James, who holds the record for the most points scored and total minutes played in NBA history, took another step closer to another accolade on Wednesday night.
In his 1,561st regular-season game (a 112-97 victory in Dallas), James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to claim sole ownership of second place on the NBA’s games played list. Only Robert Parish, who played 1,611 games, has more than the 40-year-old James. This was James’ 418th game with the Lakers, coming after 849 games with Cleveland and 294 with Miami.

Earlier this season, on November 16, James entered the Top 5 for games played and needs 51 more games to take over the top position from Parish. Next season will mark his 23rd year in the league, and he has consistently participated in at least 55 games over the past four seasons (including 71 in 2023-24 and 69 this season).
He is also on the verge of another milestone, needing just three more three-pointers to pass Reggie Miller (2,560) for 6th place all-time in that category. The Lakers have two games remaining in the season and have already secured a playoff berth, which could lead to resting James as the 2024-25 season comes to a close.
