Star guard Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves had his 18th technical foul of the season overturned by the NBA on Saturday, sparing him from a one-game suspension that would have affected the team’s regular-season finale.
Edwards faced the prospect of missing Sunday’s matchup against the Utah Jazz after being penalized for foul language in response to a call during Minnesota’s 117-91 victory over Brooklyn.
According to NBA regulations, players who accumulate 16 technical fouls within the regular season are subject to a one-game suspension, with every additional two technical fouls leading to another suspension.
Anthony Edwards’ (MIN) technical foul at 6:29 of the 2nd quarter on April 11, 2025 (against BKN) has been rescinded following a review by the league office.

“I was just trying to play good defense when they called a foul on me, and then I got the tech,” Edwards stated after the game. “I honestly don’t think it warranted a technical foul, but I have a solid rapport with referee Ray Acosta, and we cleared things up afterward. I just don’t believe that gesture deserved a technical.”
Earlier this season, in late February, Edwards received a mandatory suspension after hitting the 16-foul threshold.
With a current record of 48-33, the Timberwolves still have the opportunity to secure a fourth-place finish among the competitive teams in the Western Conference, which would grant them home-court advantage in the initial playoff round. However, they could also slide to eighth place, necessitating a Play-In victory to secure a playoff slot.
