Luka Doncic Shatters Records: First International Player Tops NBA Jersey Sales, Redefining Popularity in the League

The recent trade that brought Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers has ushered in a new chapter, reflected in the latest NBA update regarding jersey sales.

On Monday, the league unveiled the rankings for the most popular jerseys for the 2024-25 season, along with lists for team merchandise, most-watched highlights, and players across the Regular Season.

Luka Dončić, the Slovenian sensation now with the Lakers, has made history as the first international player to lead the jersey sales rankings. He is also the first athlete other than Stephen Curry or LeBron James to top this list since the 2012-13 season. After his trade from the Dallas Mavericks, sales on NBAStore.com soared by 21% compared to the same timeframe last season.

In addition to being third in social and digital views, where his teammate LeBron James holds the top spot, Dončić’s popularity has contributed to the Lakers’ ongoing dominance in merchandise sales.

Also noteworthy is Victor Wembanyama from the San Antonio Spurs, who secured the sixth position on the jersey sales list, followed by Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets in tenth place and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks in eleventh.

According to the press release: “The highlights that garnered the most views on NBA social and digital platforms during the 2024-25 regular season featured two incredible layups by Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies in a match against the Brooklyn Nets on November 4, amassing 286 million views. Stephen Curry from the Golden State Warriors secured the second spot with a behind-the-back move and finish against the Phoenix Suns on December 28, which received 136 million views.

The most popular players on NBA social and digital platforms during the regular season were led by LeBron James (3.23 billion views), followed by Curry (2.56 billion views) and Luka Dončić (1.82 billion views).
