The race for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title in the 2024–25 NBA season has boiled down to three contenders: Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
D’Angelo Russell, a guard for the Brooklyn Nets, firmly believes that the Serbian center for the Denver Nuggets is worthy of this accolade.
“Jokic is destined to win the MVP. He could very well be claiming his fifth MVP right now. That’s my stance on it,” Russell shared during his appearance on the Backyard Podcast.
He also took a moment to commend Gilgeous-Alexander from the Oklahoma City Thunder for his outstanding performance this season.
“I acknowledge Shai—much respect to you, brother—there’s no denying your talent. But we can’t keep ignoring what Jokic brings to the table.”
Although Russell chose Jokic as his MVP pick, he anticipates that the LA Clippers will triumph over the Nuggets in the initial round of the NBA Playoffs.
“Jokic is undoubtedly the best player in the world. I wouldn’t bet against him, but if Kawhi and James continue their stellar play, they’re unlikely to lose,” Russell concluded.
