Courageous Investment: Jrue and Lauren Holiday Step into Ownership Role with North Carolina Courage

CARY, N.C. (AP) — Lauren Holiday, a former star of the U.S. women’s national soccer team, along with her husband Jrue Holiday of the Boston Celtics, have become part of the ownership group for the North Carolina Courage in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Lauren Holiday was instrumental in the U.S. victories at the 2015 Women’s World Cup, as well as earning gold medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.

Jrue Holiday, recognized as a two-time NBA champion and a two-time All-Star, has previously played for the Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Milwaukee Bucks, also holding a couple of Olympic gold medals.

Their investment in the Courage was facilitated through their Holiday Family Trust, as announced by the team on Wednesday. In this new role, Lauren Holiday will act as an advisor and representative for the NWSL team.

“This club symbolizes the future of women’s soccer — not only through our approach to the game but also in how we uplift athletes, engage with communities, and pursue a sustainable future for the sport,” Lauren Holiday stated. “I am deeply committed to the Courage’s mission and vision, and I look forward to making significant contributions, particularly regarding player development and fostering a positive culture.”

Lauren Holiday concluded her soccer career in 2016. After being diagnosed with a benign brain tumor while expecting their first child, she underwent surgery shortly after her daughter’s birth, during which Jrue Holiday took a leave from his professional commitments to support her and care for their newborn.

The NWSL also presents the Lauren Holiday Impact Award each year to recognize players who have made significant contributions to their local communities.
