Following a preview of his segment on “Mind the Game,” hosted by Uninterrupted and Wondery, the initial part of Luka Doncic’s conversation with his Los Angeles Lakers teammate LeBron James and co-host Steve Nash was released on Sunday.
The 26-year-old Slovenian guard discussed his transition from playing alongside the four-time NBA champion after being traded from the Dallas Mavericks midway through the 2024-25 NBA regular season to settling in Los Angeles and his commitment to enhancing youth sports.
“It’s incredible,” Doncic remarked about teaming up with LeBron. “I’ve never played with anyone like him. Moving to LA was a unique experience. Playing with guys of his caliber is truly special.”
“This is the first city I’ve played in that is by the ocean, and I really enjoy it. After just a few days, that became a priority for me,” he continued as he shared his early experiences in Los Angeles.
Nash also highlighted Doncic’s signature late pass as one of his favorite skills.
“I don’t remember doing that as a kid,” Doncic reflected on his unique passing style that developed throughout his NBA journey. “I always tell my teammates, ‘Once I go up, stay where you are because I know you’ve been there before, and if I don’t see another option, I’ll pass it to you.’ I believe it evolved over time.”
With the Luka Doncic Foundation allocating resources to a research initiative focused on youth basketball in Europe and the U.S., Doncic expressed his aspirations influenced by his own experiences in various sports during his youth.
“We’re looking to blend the strengths and weaknesses,” he outlined regarding the study’s objectives. “The key takeaway is simply for kids to have fun while playing basketball, especially when they’re young.”
