Toronto Raptors Eyeing Giannis Antetokounmpo as Superstar Considers Future Beyond Milwaukee

Speculation regarding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s possible departure from the Milwaukee Bucks has sparked interest for the Toronto Raptors, who could potentially facilitate a trade for the star player.

In a recent mailbag for the Canadian publication Toronto Star, Raptors insider Doug Smith pointed out that there seems to be a shared interest between the 30-year-old athlete and the Raptors.

“While I can’t say it will definitely happen, there is certainly interest from both Antetokounmpo and the Raptors. The key factor is going to be the cost,” he commented.

The Greek national team player is under contract with the Bucks until the conclusion of the 2026-27 season, with a player option available for 2027-28. This raises the possibility of him seeking a fresh start after over a decade in Milwaukee.

“Furthermore, I believe the Raptors are well-positioned to put together a compelling offer without jeopardizing their franchise or existing roster,” Smith noted regarding a potential trade with Toronto. “Considering their depth at the wing position, I think they could afford to part with two players among Gradey Dick, Ochai Agbaji, Ja’Kobe Walter, RJ Barrett, and Jonathan Mogbo, and still retain enough talent to build a solid roster of promising young players. They also possess all their draft picks, which allows them to offer a first-round selection each year for the next four years without sacrificing their foundation.”

“The critical question is whether the remaining players will continue to develop, much like Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, OG Anunoby, and Jakob Poeltl did. While they may not reach that remarkable level—one that’s unmatched historically—if they can get somewhere close to it, that would be significant,” he added. “Once again, the likelihood of securing a deal for Giannis is slim, but the consequences of paying a high price aren’t too daunting.”

Giannis is anticipated to meet with the Bucks soon to explore his future with the franchise, focusing on whether he can help secure a second NBA championship for Milwaukee or consider alternatives.
