The New York Knicks were defeated 4-2 by the Indiana Pacers in this season’s Eastern Conference Finals, preventing them from advancing to the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Nonetheless, this marked the team’s first appearance in the conference finals in a quarter of a century.
In spite of this significant achievement, the franchise based in New York has opted to part ways with head coach Tom Thibodeau, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Thibodeau, who first joined the Knicks as an assistant coach from 1996 to 2003, returned to the organization in 2020. He also coached the Chicago Bulls from 2010 to 2015 and the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2016 to 2019.
During his tenure with the Knicks, Thibodeau managed to lead the team to the NBA Playoffs in four out of five seasons, and for the first time since the 1990s, he guided New York to seasons with over 50 wins.
