The Phoenix Suns have appointed Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott as their new head coach, according to ESPN.
Ott, alongside fellow Cavaliers assistant Johnnie Bryant, was one of the final candidates considered. They met with Suns’ executives, including owner Mat Ishbia and GM Brian Gregory, in Michigan on Tuesday.
Star player Devin Booker played a significant role in the final selection and reportedly endorsed Ott as his top choice, as per sources.
With over ten years of coaching experience in the NBA, Ott is recognized for his focus on player development, flexibility, and effective communication. Prior to his time in Cleveland, he served as an assistant with the Hawks, Nets, and Lakers.
The Suns examined over 15 coaching candidates in a comprehensive selection process led by Gregory, ultimately narrowing it down to six finalists. With Ott now at the helm, attention will turn to the roster decisions, particularly concerning the future of Kevin Durant, who is anticipated to attract interest from numerous teams this offseason.
