Headline: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Makes History as He Joins Elite 3,000-Point Club with 600 Assists

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continues to set impressive benchmarks in his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

During Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night, the reigning MVP reached the significant achievement of scoring his 3,000th point for the season, when he netted a 10-foot shot with 8:24 remaining in the first quarter. This total includes points earned in both the regular season and playoffs.

Gilgeous-Alexander only required two points to hit this milestone, having recorded 38 points in the Thunder’s Game 1 defeat against the Indiana Pacers on Thursday.

This accomplishment marks the 25th instance in NBA history where a player has achieved 3,000 points in a single season. Michael Jordan accomplished this feat on ten occasions and Wilt Chamberlain did it five times. Additionally, ten other players, including Bob McAdoo, Elgin Baylor, James Harden, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Luka Dončić, Rick Barry, Shaquille O’Neal, and now Gilgeous-Alexander, have reached this milestone once.

Furthermore, Gilgeous-Alexander is the fourth player ever to score at least 3,000 points while also recording a minimum of 600 assists in the same season. Michael Jordan achieved this three times, while Luka Dončić and James Harden have each done so once.
