Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the 26-year-old who was honored as the Most Valuable Player of both the 2024-25 Regular Season and the Western Conference Finals, also earned the Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP title on Sunday.
In a postgame interview immediately following the season’s conclusion at Paycom Center, the Canadian guard expressed his emotions: “So many hours, so many moments, so much feeling, countless nights of skepticism, and so many nights filled with faith.”
The Pacers faced significant challenges during Game 7, having to play most of it without their star player Tyrese Haliburton. Already contending with a strained calf, Haliburton exited the game early due to an injury to his lower right leg with 4:55 remaining in the first quarter. Prior to his departure, he managed to score nine points, hitting three three-pointers in a little over seven minutes.
On the path to securing the Larry O’Brien Trophy with his teammates, thus achieving the franchise’s second NBA title since the Seattle SuperSonics in 1979, SGA recorded 29 points, 12 assists, five rebounds, and two blocks in Game 7. Throughout the Finals, he averaged 30.3 points, 5.6 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 1.9 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game.
In the critical Game 7 that decided the best-of-seven series, German Isaiah Hartenstein contributed with seven points, nine rebounds, four assists, and one steal in 18 minutes. Belgian Ajay Mitchell and Frenchman Ousmane Dieng played briefly in the fourth quarter, while Serbian Nikola Topic remained unavailable due to knee surgery.
