Vasilije Micic is moving from the Phoenix Suns to the Charlotte Hornets.
The 31-year-old Serbian point guard was anticipated to enter unrestricted free agency after the Suns opted out of an $8.1 million team option. However, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks during the 2025 NBA Draft presented by State Farm, the Suns have decided to keep him and facilitate a trade back to the Hornets.
Micic’s return to Charlotte is part of a transaction that involves sending Mark Williams to the Suns in exchange for the 29th overall pick in this year’s draft and a first-round selection in 2029, which is protected for the top five spots, as reported by Shams Charania. Additionally, both teams have swapped second-round picks for the 2026 draft, according to Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer.
Aside from his recent trip to Greece for personal reasons, Micic has been associated with several Turkish Airlines EuroLeague teams, including the reigning champions, Fenerbahce Beko, in the past few weeks. Though he has a contract for the upcoming season, which may hinder his path to Europe’s elite club competition, it is possible that the Hornets could waive him, allowing him to re-enter the free-agent market and become a target for EuroLeague squads once more.
Since joining the Suns, the Kraljevo native has played in five games, posting averages of 0.4 rebounds and 0.2 assists per contest. With an expanded role on the Hornets at the start of the 2024-25 season, he averaged 7.5 points, 3.5 assists, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.4 steals over 36 games, including 16 starts. He began his NBA career in the 2023-24 season, playing 30 games with the Oklahoma City Thunder and another 30 with the Hornets after a midseason trade.
