Bojan Bogdanović has officially declared his retirement from professional basketball after a remarkable ten-year tenure in the NBA.
The 36-year-old winger took to social media to share his decision, attributing it to persistent injury issues that kept him off the court for the majority of this past season.
Bogdanović began the 2024/25 season with the Brooklyn Nets but was ultimately sidelined due to surgeries on his left foot and wrist. He was released by the Nets in February following a procedure for a season-ending foot injury.
“Sometimes in life, you don’t have the luxury of choosing the moment; instead, the moment chooses you,” Bogdanović expressed. “After enduring over 14 months of injuries and numerous surgeries, it feels right to turn the page on this chapter.”
Before embarking on his NBA career in 2014 with the Brooklyn Nets, Bogdanović was already a celebrated figure in European basketball. Over the course of his professional life, he represented teams such as Washington, Indiana, Utah, Detroit, and New York, establishing himself as one of the league’s top three-point shooters. His career averages stand at 15.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 39.4% from three-point range.
“After more than 20 years in this sport, the time has come to bid farewell to basketball. This isn’t just a game to me; it’s an integral part of who I am. While I’m closing this chapter, my passion for the sport endures. I haven’t reached the finale; I’ve simply arrived at a new beginning…”
He also reflected on his European basketball experiences.
“I’ve been fortunate to play for clubs that have made significant contributions to both European and NBA basketball. From my beginnings in Mostar with Zrinjski, to Real Madrid and Murcia, and through to Cibona and Fenerbahçe, I wore every jersey with immense pride.”
Bogdanović concluded by highlighting his pride in representing Croatia at every level, calling it the pinnacle of his career.
