The NBA offseason is approaching a critical moment, with the free agency period set to commence in just a few hours.
Moritz Wagner from Germany, who spent a significant part of the 2024-25 season sidelined due to a knee injury, is set to enter unrestricted free agency. The Orlando Magic have opted against exercising his team option valued at $11 million, as reported on Sunday by ESPN’s senior NBA insider Shams Charania. Nonetheless, the Magic still hold his bird rights, which allows them the opportunity to re-sign him.
As he focuses on rehabilitation and aims for medical clearance ahead of the upcoming season, the 28-year-old forward will forgo participation in EuroBasket 2025. A product of ALBA Berlin and the older brother of Franz Wagner, his current teammate, he has played in 370 NBA games since entering the league in 2018. After brief stints with the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards, and Boston Celtics, he joined the Magic in 2021.
Spanish player Santi Aldama is also set to become a restricted free agent, as the Memphis Grizzlies have extended a qualifying offer, according to senior NBA insider Michael Scotto from HoopsHype. He is likely to draw interest from other franchises around the league. Aldama has made 245 appearances in the NBA over the past four seasons, all with the Grizzlies.
In other news, the Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, and Portland Trail Blazers have exercised team options to keep Dutch player Quinten Post, German player Ariel Hukporti, and French player Rayan Rupert, as reported by Scotto, Charania, and Sean Highkin. Conversely, the Minnesota Timberwolves have decided against keeping a contract option for Bosnian Luka Garza, according to Scotto.
