The Phoenix Suns have opted to exercise the $8.1 million team option for Serbian guard Vasilije Micić, as initially reported by Keith Smith.
This decision paves the way for Phoenix to finalize a reported trade with the Charlotte Hornets that involves center Mark Williams, which is expected to take place on draft night.
Despite earlier predictions that the Suns would not pick up Micić’s option, the impending transaction altered that outlook. With his contract now fully guaranteed, the Hornets hold the reins over Micić’s future.
It is still uncertain whether Charlotte plans to retain the 30-year-old guard on their roster. There remains the possibility of a waiver, which could reopen avenues for Micić to return to the EuroLeague, where he has been associated with several prestigious teams.
Micić began his NBA journey in the 2023–24 season, participating in 60 games split between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Charlotte Hornets. During the 2024/25 season, he averaged 7.5 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game with the Hornets before being traded midseason to Phoenix, where his playing time was limited.
