Headline: NBA Announces Salary Cap Increase to $154.6 Million for 2025-26 Season, Unlocking New Opportunities for Teams

The NBA has revealed the Salary Cap for the 2025-26 season.

As the free agency period begins, teams were officially notified on Monday regarding various guidelines, including a Salary Cap set at $154.645 million and the establishment of a moratorium period before transactions can be finalized.

This represents a 10% increase compared to the $140.588 million cap for the 2024-25 season, which is the maximum permissible increase under the league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.

In addition, the NBA set the Tax Level at $187.895 million while also detailing additional financial constraints for teams.

According to the press release: “The National Basketball Association has announced that the Salary Cap for the 2025-26 season is established at $154.647 million. For the same season, the Tax Level is set at $187.895 million.

Both the Salary Cap and Tax Level will take effect at 12:01 a.m. ET on Tuesday, July 1. Teams may begin negotiations with all free agents today at 6:00 p.m. ET, which is six hours prior to the commencement of the league’s moratorium period, that concludes at noon ET on Sunday, July 6.

• The Minimum Team Salary is set at $139.182 million for the 2025-26 season.

• The First Apron Level is established at $195.945 million for the 2025-26 season.

• The Second Apron Level is set at $207.824 million for the 2025-26 season.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement allows for three different Mid-Level Exceptions based on a team’s salary level. For the 2025-26 season, the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level stands at $14.104 million, the Taxpayer Mid-Level at $5.685 million, and the Mid-Level for teams with available cap space at $8.781 million.”
