Mike Brown Named Knicks New Head Coach, Bringing Championship Experience Following Thibodeaus Exit

Mike Brown has been appointed as the new head coach of the New York Knicks, as reported by ESPN. He steps in to replace Tom Thibodeau, who was dismissed in early June.

Following Thibodeau’s departure, the Knicks actively sought a new head coach before ultimately deciding on Brown.

Prior to this, Brown led the Sacramento Kings until he was let go last December. He has also held head coaching roles with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers, in addition to serving as an assistant with the Golden State Warriors, Washington Wizards, and San Antonio Spurs.

Brown earned Coach of the Year honors in both 2009 and 2023 while coaching the Cavaliers and Kings, respectively.

ESPN also mentioned that other candidates considered for the Knicks’ head coaching role included Taylor Jenkins from the Memphis Grizzlies, James Borrego, associate coach for the New Orleans Pelicans, and Micah Nori, an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Last season, the Knicks advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals but were defeated by the Indiana Pacers with a close series score of 3-4.
