The Orlando Magic has opted to keep Moritz Wagner for the 2025-26 season.
ESPN’s senior NBA insider Shams Charania reported on Friday that the extension is a one-year deal valued at five million dollars.
The 28-year-old German power forward, who is the older sibling of fellow Magic player Franz, encountered a torn ACL in his left knee and missed part of the 2024-25 season. As a result, he played in just 30 regular-season games, achieving a personal best of 12.9 points per game, along with averages of 4.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.4 blocks.
While focusing on his rehabilitation during the offseason and aiming to receive medical clearance for the upcoming season, he will not participate in EuroBasket 2025. Wagner’s prior experiences with the German national team include winning a gold medal at the FIBA World Cup 2023. He has also participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2021 held in Split. At the junior level, he contributed to Germany’s victory in the U18 European Championship in 2014.
After three seasons playing for Michigan in college, the Berlin native was drafted 25th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2018 NBA Draft. Following a year in LA, he was traded to the Washington Wizards and then the Boston Celtics, before settling with the Magic during the 2020-21 season. In total, he has appeared in 370 NBA games, including seven during the 2024 NBA Playoffs presented by Google Pixel.
