Ajay Mitchell has officially inked a multi-year extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Following the lifting of the NBA moratorium, the team announced the new deal on Sunday, although specific details were not disclosed.
According to previous reports, the 23-year-old Belgian shooting guard has agreed to a three-year contract valued at nine million dollars, replacing a three-million-dollar option for the 2025-26 season and set to take effect immediately.
As stated in the press release: “The Oklahoma City Thunder has signed guard Ajay Mitchell to a multi-year contract, as announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti. In accordance with team policy, the specific terms of the agreement remain undisclosed.”
During his rookie season, Mitchell played in 36 games, averaging 6.5 points on 49.5% shooting, with 38.3% from beyond the arc, along with 1.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists in approximately 16.6 minutes per game.
The Belgian player was initially drafted 38th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft.
This contract extension adds to a series of transactions, including a historic seven-team trade that sent Kevin Durant and Swiss player Clint Capela to the Houston Rockets. These deals were officially finalized soon after the moratorium ended on July 6, allowing teams and players to negotiate before concluding transactions.
In other league news, the Milwaukee Bucks have officially acquired Serbian Vasilije Micic from the Charlotte Hornets, but are expected to waive him. Additionally, the Los Angeles Clippers announced a contract extension for French player Nicolas Batum, while the New York Knicks completed the signing of fellow French player Guershon Yabusele.
