After being traded to Atlanta following the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, Kristaps Porzingis was unable to conclude his time with the Boston Celtics in the manner he and the organization had hoped for.
In an interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution as he embarks on his journey with the Hawks, he reflected on his departure from Boston, stating, “Our season didn’t finish last year as we had intended. But that’s just how things unfold. Clearly, we anticipated some shifts within the team.”
He expressed appreciation for a longer off-season than usual, noting, “Having a bit more time to recharge is wonderful for any player, considering the rigor of the NBA season. I joined mid-season, and it was certainly challenging.”
Porzingis added, “This break allows me to rejuvenate and prepare for a significant summer ahead, before diving into the next season. It truly feels like the ideal situation, and I’m incredibly enthusiastic about what lies ahead.”
When he mentioned the “big summer,” the Latvian player is likely alluding to his participation in FIBA EuroBasket 2025, which will take place in his homeland of Riga, before embarking on a new phase in his NBA career.
Moreover, Porzingis disclosed that he has already initiated discussions with Atlanta’s front office and coaching team. “We had a brief chat, though we didn’t delve into specifics. I met with Onsi [Saleh, the General Manager] and Coach Quin [Snyder] to discuss certain concepts and playing styles,” he explained.
“I’m genuinely excited about what I observed. I’m not merely saying this because I’m on a new team—I truly look forward to it. I believe this style of play suits me well, and I have confidence in my ability to fit in anywhere,” Porzingis remarked.
He further stated, “I’m confident that I’ll integrate seamlessly here and contribute to a more diverse offense. I see opportunities for additional depth in a unit that is already quite formidable offensively. Together, we have the potential to be a major offensive force.”
