SALT LAKE CITY (AP)— On Tuesday, Kyle Filipowski made history by becoming the first player from the Utah Jazz to be named the Most Valuable Player of the NBA Summer League.

The 6-foot-11 forward from Duke showcased an impressive performance, leading the league with an average of 29.3 points per game across three outings, along with 7.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists. His shooting percentages were remarkable, hitting 56.1% from the floor and 39.1% from beyond the arc.

His standout summer league moment occurred on July 14th against San Antonio, where he recorded 35 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Filipowski aims to leverage his summer league experience to carve out a significant role with the Jazz in his upcoming second season in the NBA.

“Of course, summer league is different from the regular season,” Filipowski remarked after the Jazz’s final game of the summer league. “I’m just focusing on being myself out there. Whatever that leads to in the regular season is how I’ll approach it. I plan to make the most of that opportunity.”

In his inaugural season with Utah, Filipowski participated in 72 games, starting 27 of them. He averaged 9.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while playing 21.2 minutes per game. By the end of the season, he was one of only two rookies in the NBA to surpass 650 points, 400 rebounds, and 100 assists.
