A legend of the French national team and an icon for the San Antonio Spurs, Tony Parker has also served as a shareholder and later president of ASVEL. Now at 43, what lies ahead for him?
As he shared with L’Equipe, Parker’s latest aspiration is to “coach in the NBA,” marking the beginning of a new chapter in his professional journey.
According to the French publication, the former Spurs point guard is starting the process to earn his State Diploma in coaching, aiming to complete this by 2025.
Earlier today, Parker himself was reportedly on the sidelines at the Tony Parker Academy, overseeing the U15 team’s practice instead of their designated coach, Bastien Jacquillard.
Ultimately, his ambition is to step into an NBA coaching role, following in the footsteps of accomplished European coaches in the league, like Jordi Fernandez, Tuomas Iisalo, and Darko Rajakovic.
Parker became a shareholder of ASVEL in 2009, took on the presidency in 2014, and concluded his professional playing career after the 2018-19 season with a single year at the Charlotte Hornets.
