Former NBA point guard Jeremy Lin shared an emotional announcement regarding his retirement from professional basketball in a heartfelt Instagram post on Saturday evening.
“It has been a tremendous honor to compete against the toughest athletes under the brightest lights and to push the boundaries of what people thought was achievable for someone who looks like me,” he expressed. “I’ve fulfilled my childhood dreams by playing in front of fans worldwide. I will always remember being the kid who felt truly alive each time I picked up a basketball.”
Undrafted in 2010, Lin averaged 11.6 points and 4.3 assists throughout his nine-year NBA career from 2010 to 2019. He rose to international prominence while playing for the New York Knicks during the 2011-12 season, particularly during an impressive 11-game stretch in February where he averaged 24.6 points, 9.2 assists, and 4.1 rebounds, a phenomenon that came to be known as “Linsanity.”
In the following two seasons, Lin became a full-time starting point guard for the Houston Rockets before having brief tenures with teams such as the Lakers, Hornets, Nets, Hawks, and Raptors. He also played in various leagues, including the Chinese Basketball Association, Taiwan Professional Basketball League, and the NBA G League.
